Powerful Offense fires SHU past Wesleyan

Shelton, CT. – The Sacred Heart women's ice hockey team fired five goals past Wesleyan in a 5-1 win on Friday evening. 

Rachel Aronow opened the scoring for Wesleyan after just 15 seconds, assisted by Gina Mangiafridda in the first period on what would be there only goal of the game.

SHU responded strongly in the second period. 4:40 into the period Taylor Moreland tied the game at 1-1 on an assist from freshman Jayne Lewis. SHU took the lead for the first time in the game at 10:36 and would not look back with Carly Radovich putting the Pioneer's ahead, assisted by Katie Stueve and Brittany Smith on the power play.

SHU extended there lead further in the third period again on the power play with senior Megan Finlay scoring, assisted by Maddie Bishop. At 10:06 Taylor Moreland would get her second goal of the game breaking through the Wesleyan defence to go one on one with the goalkeeper before lifting the puck into the roof of the net.

On 13:59 SHU would add a fifth goal with Lilly Cleary finishing off a superb team goal from a cross by Haley Payne to seal the 5-1 win for the Pioneer's

The two teams wrap up their weekend series Saturday at 3 p.m.
