Women's Ice Hockey Tabbed to Finish First in NEWHA Preseason Poll

WINTHROP, Mass. - The defending New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) Champion Sacred Heart University Women's Ice Hockey team has been picked to finish first in the preseason coaches' poll, edging out regular season champion Saint Anselm College by one point.

The Pioneers collected three of the five first-place votes while the Hawks collected the remaining two. Sacred Heart finished with 15 points, one ahead of Saint Anselm in the poll of the league's head coaches. 

Tournament runner-up Franklin Pierce University finished third in the poll, collecting eight points, followed by Saint Michael's College with seven points and Post University with four. 

Now in its second year, the New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) is a group of comprised of two NCAA Division I institutions and four NCAA Division II institutions. Founding members of the NEWHA include Franklin Pierce University, Post University (Conn.), Sacred Heart University, Saint Anselm College, and Saint Michael's College. 

Long Island University Brooklyn is slated to join the league in 2019-20 as its sixth member.
