Women's Ice Hockey Earns Fourth Shutout Of The Season With 5-0 Win Over Post

SHELTON, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University Women's Ice Hockey team picked up their first NEWHA conference victory tonight as they defeated Post by a final score of 5-0. The team will wrap up the home at home series tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. 

The Pioneers would jump out to an early lead as Lexi Edwards would find the back of the net at 4:28 off an assist by Katie Stueve to put SHU ahead 1-0. The Pioneers would keep on firing shots as they tallied 26 just in the first period but they would not be able to find the back of the net for the remainder of the period keeping the score 1-0. 

SHU would regroup in the second as the just three minutes into the second period, Jayne Lewis would find the open hole a drill in her fifth goal of the year to put the Pioneers ahead 2-0 at 3:12. The scoring wouldn't stop there as Victoria Grimmer would fire off a shot passed the goalie off a an assist by Kelly Solak to put the Pioneers in a commanding 3-0 lead at 4:30. The Pioneers would tack on two more goals in the second courtesy of Jayne Lewis which marks two on the day for her at 9:21 and the other coming from Dakota McMahon at 18:39 to help give SHU at 5-0 lead heading into the third. 

Neither team would be able to score in the final period as SHU would skate away with its fourth shutout victory of the season.
