SHELTON, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University Women's Ice Hockey team completed the weekend sweep of Post tonight winning by a final score of 3-0. The team will return to action on Friday Nov. 16 when the Pioneers host Franklin Pierce. Game-time is set for 4:00 p.m.
The Pioneers would score the lone goal of the first period at three minute mark of the first as sophomore Lexi Edwards would score third goal of the year off an assist Jayne Lewis to put the Pioneers ahead 1-0. SHU would be dominate on the shot front as they fired off a total of 26 shots in the first while the Pioneer defense held Post to just six. But the one shot by Edwards would be the only one to find the net in the first as the period closed with the Pioneers ahead 1-0.
Neither team would be able to score in the second period as the goalies on both sides would make a combined 20 saves in the period keeping the score just 1-0 in favor of SHU.
In the third, the Pioneer offense would come alive as Anna Klein would fire a shot passed the goalie at 4:04 off an assist by Maddie Bishop to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead. Lexi Edwards would continue her impressive game as she would tally her second goal of the game this time off an assist by Katie Stueve at 14:01 to close the game with the Pioneers skating away with the 3-0 victory. With the win the Pioneers improve to 6-3-1 overall while earning its second NEWHA victory to improve the conference record to 2-1-1.
