CANTON, N.Y.- The Sacred Heart University Women's Ice Hockey team tied SUNY Canton by a final score of 2-2 to conclude the two-game series. The Pioneers will return to action on Friday January 4, when the team travels to Neumann for a two game series. Puck-drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
It would be the Roos that would get on the board first as at 12:50 into the first period Grace Page would slip a shot passed the goalie Sarah Erban to give SUNY Canton a 1-0 lead. The Pioneers would outshoot the Roos 9-4 in the first period but would be unable to tie the game up keeping the score at 1-0 after one.
In the second period it would be SUNY Canton again to score in the period this time coming at 12:21 off the stick of Breanna Bedborough to give the Roos a 2-0 after two periods. SUNY Canton outshot the Pioneers 11-10 in the period.
The third period is where the Pioneers would get on the board as SHU would net two goals to send the game into overtime. The first came at 12:59 off the stick of Maddie Bishop from assists by and Victoria Grimmer and Nicole Guidi to tighten the lead to 2-1. Then in the final minute of the third Haley Payne would find the back of the net to tie game at 2-2 from assists by Bishop and Nicole Guidi.
The game would go into overtime as neither team would be able to score in the period to make the final score 2-2.
