DANBURY, Conn.- The NWHL (National Women's Hockey League) local team the Connecticut Whale has signed Sacred Heart University Women's Ice Hockey forward Haley Payne to join the team for the 2019-20 season.

Payne tallied 32 goals and 28 assists in 117 career games with SHU. She was the Pioneers highest-scoring freshman in 2015-16 and scored at least six goals in each of her last three seasons with the program.
As a senior in 2018-19, Payne finished second on the team in goals (16), primary points (23), game-winning goals (3), and led all SHU forwards in blocked shots (17). Last year, Payne ranked sixth among skaters from NCAA D-I Independent programs in goals and finished in the Top-10 in plus/minus (+23).
