Strong Second-Half Pushes Mount Past Pioneers

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team (2-11, 2-2 NEC) fell to Mount St. Mary's (7-6, 2-2 NEC) 14-9, Friday afternoon at Campus Field in a Northeast Conference contest.

How it happened…

The playing field was even following the first half of action. Averi Farhat commenced scoring by either team blasting the ball right past Mount keeper, Jillian Petito, 2:19 into the game with the help from Cassie Cesario. Then, the Mountaineers put together a brief 3-0 run covering about three minutes to take a 3-1 lead in the 23rd minute.

The Pioneers combatted with a 2-0 spurt in part to Sydney Ericson and Cesario's scoring and Farhat's assist to bring the hosts within one at 14:10. From there, both teams traded goals as SHU's with 15 ticks remaining plateaued scoring at the intermission, 5-up.

Out of the break, Mount got behind a 4-1 run, 9-6, by 17:32 and never looked back.

The numbers…

Hanna Wise's four goals led SHU on the afternoon, one of which came in the first half. She also cashed in on all three of her three free position opportunities.

Farhat was second in goals scored (3) on the team and added an assist. She also converted a free position opportunity.

Dominique Anselmin led the Pioneers with three caused turnovers and won four draw controls. Elizabeth Small's five draw controls slotted first on the team. Kelsey Perretta also finished with four.

Paige Hammick racked in eight saves in the loss.
