SOMERSET, N.J. – Sacred Heart women's lacrosse freshman attack Lydia Werlau was honored with a Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week award, as announced by the conference office on Monday, March 25, 2019.
Werlau doubled her season point total in one week as the rookie racked up eight points (seven goals, one assist) in two games, posting hat tricks in both contests last week for the Pioneers. She now has 16 points (12 goals, four assists) through seven games in 2019, sitting second on the team in goals and third in assists.
Her week started with a season-high five-point effort (four goals, one assist) to go along with four draw controls in a tightly-contested 12-11 loss at Fairfield on Wednesday. The five-point total marks the most points scored by a SHU rookie in a game since Cassie Cesario notched six points in the 2017 season.
Werlau's strong week continued with a hat trick in Saturday's loss at Hofstra, as the rookie came up with three of the four Pioneer goals scored on the day.
SHU is back in action with their final non-conference game of the season on Saturday as the Pioneers travel to take on Brown at 1 PM.
