SOMERSET, N.J. – The incredible 2019 rookie campaign for Sacred Heart women's lacrosse freshman Lydia Werlau continued on Monday as she was honored as the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Werlau continues to make history for the Pioneers as the four-time NEC Rookie of the Week became the first player in program history to win four Rookie of the Week awards in a single-season. In addition, she becomes the first NEC player to win three straight Rookie of the Week honors since Dana Davis of Robert Morris won three straight in 2015.

The freshman phenom Werlau went off for six points (four goals, two assists) in Saturday's overtime loss to Saint Francis University, giving her at least six points in three of the last four games for SHU. In the six-point effort, she scored the game-tying shorthanded unassisted goal with 2:47 remaining in the second half that sent the game into overtime.
Needing just two goals to break the SHU all-time freshman scoring record, Werlau posted four as she passed Kelly Russo's 32-goal total back in 2011 for the SHU rookie record. This was Werlau's seventh hat trick of the season and her fourth over the last five games. She racked up 14 shots (11 on-goal) in Saturday's loss and currently leads the team in points (42) and goals (35).
Werlau and the Pioneers finish the season this weekend with a pair of NEC games at Mount St. Mary's (Friday, 4 PM) and Wagner (Sunday, 1 PM).
