Pioneers show strong performance against Brown but fall just short by a final score of 26-19

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Sacred Heart University women's rugby team (0-2 overall) fell to Brown (1-0 overall) 26-19 in a very well-played game between both sides. The team will return to action when they host their home-opener on Sept. 15 when they face LIU Post. Game-time is set for 11 a.m.

Kaitlyn Lagase scored two tries in the first half to bring the score to 12-12 at the end of the half. Kaylee Hale converted on one those tries.

After the Bears entered the second half with a try to give Brown a 19-12 lead, they would halt the SHU front keeping the score 19-12 until they would find the touchline one more time to take a 26-12 lead. But then at 4:22 the Pioneers would make the game interesting as Isabel Cuddy would find the Brown touchline to cut the Bears lead to 26-19. Hale would make the conversion to make the final score 26-19 in favor of Brown.

"We decided that last week was not going to define our season. Everyone came together and fulfilled their role playing as a unit. We brought energy and played at the level we know we are capable of. This is a great lead into our home opener against LIU Post Saturday, September 15th @ 11am." Head coach Michelle Reed on the performance of the team this afternoon.
