EMMITSBURG, M.D.- The Sacred Heart University Women's Rugby team fell to Mount Saint Mary's in the Tier II Championships this afternoon in a tight score of 22-15. This was the first time Women's Rugby has made the Tier II Championships in program history. The Pioneers conclude the 15's season with an overall record of 5-4.
The Pioneers would jump out to an early lead in the first half as at 2:18 Isabel Cuddy would find the touch line to give the Pioneers a 5-0 lead. Cuddy would not stop there as after a Mount Saint Mary's try at 2:25, just seconds later, Cuddy would score for the Pioneers to take back the lead at 10-5. The Mount would score a try and conversion to close the half to make the score 12-10 in favor of Mount Saint Mary's.
SHU would kick off the second half with another early try this time courtesy of Kaitlin Lagase to take back the lead at 15-12. But the Mount wouldn't back down as they would score two more tries in the half to eventually walk away with the 22-15 victory.
The Pioneers would lead the game in line out victories while Allie Rinaldi led the team in tackles with eight.
