Softball Falls to Fairfield 5-2

FAIRFIELD, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University Softball team fell to Fairfield this afternoon by a final score of 5-2. The Pioneers will return to action on Saturday, April 4 when the Pioneers host LIU Brooklyn. First-pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.

The Scoring

  • Top of the 4th inning- An error in right field would score in Amanda Ulzheimer to give Fairfield a 1-0 lead.
  • Bottom of the 5th inning- Senior Stephanie Mangiameli would rip a double to left center scoring in fellow senior Hailey Desrosiers to even the game up at 1-1.
  • Bottom of the 5th inning- Junior Kateyln Christian would knock a single to right field scoring in Mangiameli to give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead.
  • Top of the 6th inning- A three run homer by Mikayla Rubin to left field to give the Stags a 4-2 lead.
  • Top of the 6th inning - A single by Drew Westford would score in a run to give Fairfield the fifth run of the game and the win 5-2. 

 

The Numbers

  • The Pioneers and Fairfield would each tally eight hits in the ball game. 
  • At the plate, senior Hailey Desrosiers led the way for the Pioneers going 3-4 with three singles.
  • In the circle, senior Kristen McCann would tally the loss dropping her record to 6-8 on the year as she gave up five runs on seven hits and struck out four batters.
