Softball Concludes Non-Conference Slate on a High Note With 13-3 Win Over Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University Softball team concluded it's non-conference slate on a high note as the Pioneers defeated local rival Fairfield winning convincingly by a final score of 13-3 in six innings. SHU returns to action on Sunday, April 28 when the Pioneers travel to face Bryant. First-pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.

 

The Scoring

Top of the 2nd inning- Graduate student Fallon Bevino would rip her sixth homer of the season to right field to put the Pioneers ahead 1-0.

Top of the 2nd inning- Junior Jennie Boisvert would knock in an RBI single to right field scoring in first-year Amy Petrovich to put the Pioneers ahead 2-0.

Top of the 2nd inning- Sophomore Caroline Kruger would tally her ninth RBI of the season with a single to right field scoring in Boisvert to put the Pioneers ahead 3-0.

Top of the 4th inning- Senior Hailey Desroisers would cash in a sacrifice fly to left field scoring in senior Addison Landry to give the Pioneers a 4-0 lead.

Top of the 4th inning- Bevino would strike again as she would launch an three RBI double to right center clearing the bases to give the Pioneers a 7-0 lead.

Bottom of the 4th inning- A walk with the bases loaded by Lauryn Rhinehart would score in the runner from third to make the score 7-1 in favor of SHU.

Bottom of the 4th inning- A fielder's choice would score in a runner from third to make the score 7-2.

Top of the 6th inning- Petrovich would fire off a double to center field scoring in senior Stephanie Mangiameli to put the Pioneers ahead 8-2.

Top of the 6th inning- Sophomore Kira Ferraiolo would knock in a single through the left side scoring in Petrovich from third to give the Pioneers a 9-2 lead.

Top of the 6th inning- Sophomore Maighread Scafariello would reach on a error by the shortstop scoring in two runs to put SHU ahead 11-2.

Top of the 6th inning- Desrorisers would crush a double scoring in Farraiolo to put the Pioneers ahead 12-2.

Top of the 6th inning- Mangiameli would complete the six run inning with a single scoring in Scafariello to put SHU ahead 13-2.

Bottom of the 6th inning- An RBI single by the Stags would give Fairfield it's third run of the game to make the final score 13-3.

 

The Numbers

  • The Pioneers would outhit the Stags 13 to four in the game.
  • At the plate, graduate student Fallon Bevino led the way racking up four RBI's going a perfect 4-4 with a homer and a double.
  • In the circle senior Emily Orosco would tally the win going 3.0 innings giving up no runs on one hit and striking out three batters. With the win, she improves her record to 8-5 on the year.
