The Sacred Heart University swim team completed its first day of competition at the Frank Elm Invitational at Rutgers University.
Jillian Crosby set a school record in the prelims of the 200 freestyle, touching in a time of 1:55.38. She placed 28th in finals, touching at 1:55.41. The 800 freestyle relay, comprised of Olivia Decas, Emily Shenk, Caleigh Dion and Crosby, finished 19th, at 7:56.60, just four seconds shy of the school record in that event.
Decas swam to a 30th place finish in the 100 backstroke, touching at 1:00.13 in the finals, after swimming 59.77 in the morning session. Anna Brown also swam the event in the evening session, touching in 35th place at 1:00.49, .27 seconds faster than her qualifying time Saturday morning.
Malvina Reinhold advanced to the E-final of the 100 breaststroke, placing 39th with a final swim of 1:12.51, after qualifying with a swim of 1:11.82 in the prelims.
The Pioneers 200 medley relay touched in 1:51.10, good for 23rd place.
Sacred Heart accumulated 46 points in its first day of competition at the Invitational, which began on Friday. The event concludes Sunday, with the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breast stroke, 200 butterfly, 1,650 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay.
