Pioneers Earn Wins Over Iona, Saint Francis

The Sacred Heart University women's swimming and diving team posted a 2-1 record in a quad dual meet at Iona College on Saturday.  The Pioneers defeated the host Gaels, 112.5-105.5, and NEC foe Saint Francis Brooklyn, 155-61, while falling to league rival Wagner, 166-74.  The results improve the Pioneers to 3-1 on the year and 1-1 in conference play.

Lauren Somers captured three vents on the afternoon, including a win in the 50 freestyle over a two-time NEC Swimmer of the Year.

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, November 5 when they host the College of the Holy Cross at McCann Natatorium at noon.



Somers split 51.56 for the 400 freestyle relay team that included Kim Hylan, Caleigh Dion, Olivia Decas, on its way to a winning time of 3:35.25, the top time thus far in the NEC

The 400 medley relay team comprised of Decas, Jessica Poole, Bryana Cielo and Dion finished fourth at 4:08.38



Somers touched at 24.19 for the win in the 50 free and won the 100 free in 52.42, .04 off of the school record

Kim Hylan tied for second place in the 200 free, swimming a time of 2:00.35

Caleigh Dion earned fourth place in the 100 free at 54.57



Hylan captured the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:12.55, with teammate Anna Brown in second place at 2:14.93

Nikole Rudis earned a fourth place finish in the 200 butterfly, with a time of 2:16.85

Jessica Poole earned a fifth-place finish in the 200 IM, touching at 2:16.94.
