SOMERSET, N.J.- The Sacred Heart University Swimming and Diving Team was selected to finish sixth in the 2018 Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll this morning. The team opens the season on Saturday, October 13thwhen they host Central Connecticut State and LIU Post.
Bryant was chosen by the league's head coaches as the unanimous favorite to repeat as Northeast Conference (NEC) champion in 2018-19.Wagner, a top-three finisher in each of the last 11 years, was picked second in this year's poll. Five-time champion Central Connecticut was tabbed third. Saint Francis U was picked fourth and LIU Brooklyn fifth, followed in order by Sacred Heart, St. Francis Brooklyn and Mount St. Mary's.
The team is coming off a 2017-18 season as the Pioneers finished 7-7 in dual meets while the team finished sixth the NEC Championships last season. Meanwhile, The Pioneers broke a series of school records last season including the 100 meter butterfly, and 500 free courtesy of Margaret Flaherty and Emily Peter. Junior Jessica Poole also broke the 200-breaststroke record in the 2017-18 season. All three record-breakers will return for the 2018-19 season.
