SOMERSET, N.J.- Sacred Heart University junior swimmer Lauren Somers was named Northeast Conference Swimmer of the Week for her outstanding showing against Saint Francis Brooklyn this weekend.
Somers collected her third weekly award after totaling three individual wins in a dual meet victory over St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday. The Hudson, NH product was victorious in all three of the short distance freestyle events. She touched first with a pair of times that rank in the top-10 of the NEC's 2018-19 leaderboard with a 52.79 in the 100, and a mark of 1:54.50 in the 200 free. Both times were over two seconds ahead of the field.
Somers also earned a win for SHU in the 50 free and anchored the 200 free relay to make it four first place finishes. The 50 free relay leg of 24.28 was even better than her individual time of 24.65, and helped lead the Pioneer quartet to a comfortable victory.
