Pioneers Top Providence, 5-2

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team bounced back after two-straight losses with a 5-2 win at Providence on Tuesday afternoon.  The Pioneers swept all three doubles matches and won the #3 through #6 singles matches to improve to 9-3 on the year.

Freshman Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) led the way in singles play with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win over Ayuski Sinha at #3.  Senior Darcy Demers (Norton, MA) beat Courtney Burek at #4, 7-6 (6), 6-2 and the duo teamed for an 8-6 win over Marisela Aviles-Duron and Maria Clara Bernardesz at #1 doubles.

Junior Kristina Chao (Needham, MA) beat Melissa Ferry 6-2 and 6-3 at #5 singles and was followed by junior Delaney Downing (Englewood, CO) who won 6-0, 6-1 over Bianca Sciotti at #6.

Chao and senior Elizabeth Harrington (Westerly, RI) teamed for an 8-3 win at #2 doubles over Sinha and Ferry.  Junior Kate Donnelly (Centerville, MA) and Downing completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win over Burek and Sciotti.
