Women's Track & Field Excels At Yale Season Opener

The Sacred Heart University women's track and field team participated at the Yale Season Opener in New Haven, Conn. Saturday. Bianca De Lucia highlighted the Pioneers participation as she captured her first collegiate race victory with a personal-best and New England qualifying time of 3:02.63 in the women's 1000m. 

Brianna DeGennaro and Antonia Hoyos dominated the jumps once again. DeGennaro placed second in the long jump with a 5.29m (17' 4.25") jump. She also placed fourth in the triple jump with a personal-best and New England qualifying jump of 11.26m (36' 11.5"). Hoyos took third in the triple jump with a New England qualifying jump of 11.50 (37' 8.75").

Lisa Jacobson and Nicole Szilagyi were both finalists in the 60m hurdles; placing fifth and sixth respectivly. Szilagyi's best time of the day was 9.48, while Jacobsen clocked a 9.52 for her fastest effort of the meet. Tanaya Wade also earned a finals berth Saturday, placing seventh in the 60m finals with a time of 7.99, just over her prelims run of 7.95.

Brianna Lavinier's New England qualifying throw of 12.65m (41' 6") in the shot put landed her a fourth-place finish. Teammate Samantha Curran followed with a fifth-place finish, throwing a personal-best of 12.45 (40' 10.25") just shy of the New England qualifying standard. 

The Pioneers return to action the first weekend of the New Year, travelling to the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Center in Staten Island for the Wagner Seahawks Invitational.
