Women’s Track & Field Places 20th at New England Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Jillian Kilmer starred in the heptathlon, claiming a runner-up finish to lead the Sacred Heart women's track and field team to a 20th place finish at the 2019 New England Outdoor Championships held at Southern Connecticut State over the weekend.

  • Kilmer ran a personal-best in the 200m (25.99 seconds) and threw a career-best 35.89m in the javelin as part of her tremendous effort in the competition
  • Kilmer racked up 4747 points to claim second place, All-New England honors and eight points in the team leaderboard with her all-around performance in the heptathlon
  • One of the better events on the day for SHU was the 4x800m relay as the Pioneers claimed fifth place and four points in the team standings
  • SHU's 4x800m group of Bianca De Lucia, Olivia Weiss, Julie Koenig and Jacqueline Thorne combined to finish with a time of 9:26.18
  • Madelyn Bradway came up big with her throw of 41.45m in the discus which was good enough for seventh place out of 24 competitors and two points for SHU in the team standings
  • Amy Vegliante finished her career in style, placing for the first time in her career at New England's with an eighth place result and mark of 3.41m in the pole vault
  • Tara Brody led a group of three Pioneers in the 100m dash with a personal-best time of 12.60 seconds to place 16th in the preliminaries
  • Grace Glennon crossed the line in a personal-best 26.50 seconds in the 200m
  • Emma Cary placed 16th in the 5000m with a time of 18:13.44
  • The 4x400m relay team of Devyn King, Brody, Thorne and Fahra Whichard put forth a season-best time of 4:02.08 in the event
  • Brianna Lavinier and Samantha Curran just missed on placing at New England's, placing ninth and 10th, respectively
  • Lavinier threw a personal-best 12.95m in her ninth place result while Curran threw 12.51m to take 10th
  • Lauren Tanner missed placing in the javelin by one spot as she took ninth with a throw of 38.72m
