Women's Volleyball Falls to Army West Point in Straight Sets

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University women's volleyball team fell to Army West Point in straight sets (24-26, 19-25, 10-25) to open day one of the Yale Invitational Friday afternoon. With the loss SHU falls to 4-6, while Army West Point improves to 7-3 on the season.

Reghan Palanchi led the way for SHU with eight kills, while Sarah Ciszek added 26 assists, nine digs and four kills.The Pioneers return to action Saturday, Sept. 21, when SHU closes the Yale invitational vs. Stony Brook at 11 a.m. and Yale at 7 p.m.

  • Army hit .252 for the match

  • SHU tallied 33 kills and 55 digs in the match

  • Sarah Ciszek tallied a game-high 26 assists

  • Reghan Palanchi led SHU with eight kills

Set 1 - Army 26, SHU 24

  • The two sides traded points to a 14-14 set tie

  • Back-to-back kills from Jillian Kim and Reghan Palanchi, followed by an Army attack error gave SHU a 17-14 lead

  • With SHU leading 20-16, the Black Knights went on a 3-1 run to cut the deficit to 21-19 to force a SHU timeout

  • Out of the timeout, Army committed an attack error and Jasmine Rogers followed with a kill to put SHU up 23-19 to force an Army timeout

  • Out of the timeout, the Black Knights went on a 7-1 run to take the first set

SET 2 - Army 25, SHU 19

  • The two sides traded points to a 15-15 tie

  • The two sides continued to trade points to an 18-18 tie

  • An Army kill and a service ace put the Black Knights up 20-18 to force a SHU timeout

  • Out of the timeout, Army went on a 5-1 run to take the set

SET 3 - Army 25, SHU 10

  • The sides played to an early 3-3 set tie

  • With SHU trailing 8-7, Army went on a 5-0 run to take a 13-7 lead, forcing a SHU timeout

  • Out of the timeout, the Black Knights closed the match on a 12-3 run to secure the match win
