Women's Volleyball Falls to Stony Brook in Five Sets at Yale Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University women's volleyball team fell to Stony Brook in five sets (19-25, 25-23, 25-20, 19-25, 11-15) to open day two of the Yale Invitational Saturday afternoon. With the loss SHU falls to 4-7, while Stony Brook improves to 4-9 on the season.

Gianna Scioletti led the way for SHU with 12 kills, while Sarah Ciszek added 40 assists, 14 digs ands seven kills.The Pioneers return to action Saturday, Sept. 21, when SHU closes the Yale invitational vs. Yale at 7 p.m.

Set 1 - Stony Brook 25, SHU 19

  • Stony Brook jumped out to a 6-0 lead to force a SHU timeout

  • Trailing 14-7, SHU went on a 10-5 run to cut the deficit to 19-17

  • After Stony Brook service error brought the deficit to 22-19, the Seawolves closed the set with a 3-0 run

SET 2 - SHU 25, Stony Brook 23

  • The two sides played to a 12-12 tie in the set

  • Stony Brook then went on a 4-0 run to push its lead to 16-12

  • Trailing 20-16, SHU battled to cut the deficit to 23-21

  • A Stony Brook attack error and a Makayla Dole kill tied the contest at 23-23

  • SHU closed the set with a Stony Brook attack error and a kill from Dole 

SET 3 - SHU 25, Stony Brook 20

  • The two sides played to an early 4-4 tie

  • SHU went on a 4-0 run off two service aces from Alana Felix and two kills from Jasmine Rogers

  • SHU pushed its lead to 12-6 before Stony Brook called timeout

  • Out of the timeout, SHU pushed its lead to 15-8 before Stony Brook cut the lead to 20-19

  • The Pioneers closed the set with a 5-1 run, capped by back-to-back kills from Julia Murawinski and Sarah Ciszek

SET 4 - Stony Brook 25, SHU 19

  • SHU jumped out to a 6-1 lead with a kill apiece from Gianna Scioletti and Makayla Dole

  • SHU was able to push its lead to 10-5 before Stony Brook came back to tie the contest at 17-17

  • The Seawolves closed the set with a 8-2 run to secure the set win

SET 5 - Stony Brook 15, SHU 11

  • The two sides played to an early 5-5 tie

  • After Stony Brook pushed its lead to 8-6, SHU tied the contest at 8-8, capped by a Reghan Palanchi kill

  • Stony Brook pushed the lead to 10-8, forcing a SHU timeout

  • Out of the timeout, the Seawolves took five of the next eight points to win the match
