STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart women's cross country team opened up the 2018 season on Saturday morning with a fourth place finish at the Stony Brook Season Opener. The meet, hosted by Stony Brook, also featured Fordham, Quinnipiac, St. Francis Brooklyn and Hunter College.
Fordham took home first place with 29 points, followed by the host Seawolves (41), Quinnipiac (62) and Sacred Heart, whose top five combined for 86 points in the four kilometer race.
- Junior Jacqueline Thorne led the Pioneers' pack in 11th place in 15:16.8. Olivia Weiss (15:20.9) and Emma Cary (15:29.7) followed in 13th and 16th places, respectively.
- Junior Bianca De Lucia placed fourth on the team and 21st overall in 15:37.2, and sophomore Gaelyn Kattman rounded out the SHU scoring in 25th place overall (16:04.2).
- First-year Angela Kaiser placed 27th overall (16:16.1) and sophomore Brigit Kelly (16:37.2) finished 30th to round out the team's top seven.
- Sophomore Bonnie Wilder finished with a time of 16:41.9, Delanie Kimball finished in 16:54.3 and Gabrielle Vega crossed the finish line in 16:59.4.
The Pioneers will race next this Saturday at the Nassaney Invitational, hosted by Bryant in Smithfield, R.I. Start time is scheduled for 10:15 a.m.
