SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Sacred Heart women's cross country team raced to a fourth place finish in the varsity race at the Nassaney Invitational on Saturday. Ten members of the Pioneers competed in the varsity race, while over a dozen others took part in the JV race. Both races were five kilometers. SHU was one of six Northeast Conference members to compete at the meet, finishing ahead of Central Connecticut, Bryant, Wagner, LIU Brooklyn and Fairleigh Dickinson. Boston College took home first place with 24 points, followed by Northeastern, Holy Cross and the Pioneers.
- Junior Jacqueline Thorne (18:32.7) and senior Tara Connelly (18:36.6) led the SHU pack, placing 14th and 15th, respectively.
- Emma Cary (21st/19:00.3), Olivia Weiss (27th/19:06.1) and Gaelyn Kattman (39th/19:19.3) rounded out SHU's top five.
- Bianca De Lucia (44th/19:27.4) and Delaney Kimball (55th/19:39.1) completed the team's top seven in the race, which had 99 finishers.
- In the JV race, Bonnie Wilder finished in 19:49.1, Gabrielle Vega crossed the finish line in 20:15.8, followed by Sarah Dupuis (20:44.7), Kimberly Fountain (20:45.1) and Brenna Thibodeau (20:45.9).
Next up, the Pioneers will compete on Sept. 22 at the Ted Owen Invitational at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, hosted by CCSU. Start time is set for 11 a.m.
