Sacred Heart Falls To Yale In Final Seconds, 72-67

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - Caleb Holmes caught a deep rebound at the top of the key and hit a 3-pointer with 1.9 seconds left, then hit two free throws with 1 second as the Bulldogs scored six points for a 72-67 non-league win Monday night.

Eric Flato hit a free throw after he was intentionally fouled. That led to Holmes' two free throws.

Holmes and Casey Hughes each had 15 for Yale (3-2).

Jarrid Frye had 20, Kibwe Trim 18 and Drew Shubik and Tavio Hobson 12 each for Sacred Heart (1-3).

There were 12 lead changes in the game. Sacred Heart took its first lead since the 15-minute mark in the second half on a 3-pointer from the left side from Shubik with 41.9 seconds left.

Yale's Nick Holmes put Yale up 66-65 with two free throws with 19.8 seconds.

Sacred Heart then took a 67-66 lead with 12.7 seconds left when Trim scored down low. Flato drove the lane, but his runner went off the back of rim, then was deflected back by Trim and Yale's Matt Kyle to Caleb Holmes for the game-winner.
