Final Stats

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (Sept. 1, 2006) - The 2006 Pioneer volleyball season got underway Friday evening at the Hartford Hawk Invitational with Sacred Heart posting a three-game sweep over the Holy Cross Crusaders. The Pioneers posted impressive wins of 30-20, 30-18 and 30-12 to post their first win of the year.

Senior Justina Bell (Holcomb, KS) just missed posting a double-double, recording nine kills with 11 digs. Bell also came away with a team-best four service aces and also picked up a block assist.

Sophomore Kendra Sloan (Bristow, VA) and junior Tiffany Phoenix (Cresskill, NJ) each posted six kills apiece. Sloan also came away with eight digs and five block assists.

Sophomores Katie Thomas (Wappingers Falls, NY) and Lynne Principio (Ardsley, NY) each recorded double digit digs with 19 and 10 respectively.

Freshman Morgan Gross (Dumfries, VA), playing in her first collegiate match, passed out 21 assists with a pair of service aces from her setter position.

The Pioneers are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they take on Hartford at 1:30 pm and Providence College at 4:00 pm.
