Pioneers Cruise Past St. Mike's, 6-0

Bridgeport, CT - Freshman Carla Pentimone (Chicago, IL) had two goals and an assist and junior Whitney Dziama (Walpole, MA) added a goal and two assists to lead Sacred Heart to a 6-0 win over St. Michael's in women's ice hockey action Friday night at the Wonderland of Ice. Senior Sarah Perry (Sudbury, MA) made 20 saves to earn her second career shutout.

Dziama got the Pioneers started 8:22 into the game with her second goal of the year. Dziama took a pass from Pentimone, moved into the offensive zone and blasted a shot on net. Purple Knights goaltender Alysia Goldman stopped the inital shot but the rebound bounced to Dziama who snapped it back on net and got the puck past Goldman to make it 1-0.

The combination of junior Gina Arnone (Bridgewater, NJ) and freshman Kristina Hankins (Lexington, MA) put the Pioneers up 2-0 with 8:31 left in the first period. Arnone took the puck at the point and sent it towards the net. Hankins was camped out inf front of the goal and deflected the puck into the net for her fifth goal of the year.

Freshman Jackie Galvin (Canton, MA) scored her first collegiate goal 6:07 into the second period to make it 3-0. Galvin took a pass from Arnone, moved into the offensive zone and blasted a shot that trickled through Goldman's pads and into the net. Freshman Brittany Hartman (Prior Lake, MN) scored her third goal of the year at th 9:03 mark to put SHU up 4-0.

Pentimone scored her first two collegiate goals in the third period to complete the scoring. At the 2:52 mark she collected a rebound off a shot by Dziama and pounded it into the net. Then with 6:56 left in the game Dziama found the rookie in the slot and Pentimone fired a shot that beat Melanie Cullen for her second goal.

Sacred Heart dominated the offensive play, outshooting the Purple Knights 45-20.

The Pioneers are back in action Saturday when they visit Boston University. Face-off is set for 3:00 pm.
