Final Stats

FAIRFIELD, CT - Junior Tristan Blackwood scored a game high 27, while senior Obie Nwadike had his 14th double-double of the season with 18 points and 12 boards to lead the Central Connecticut State University men's basketball team to an 80-66 win over Sacred Heart University Monday night. The win ran the Central Connecticut winning streak to 11 games and moved them to 16-10 overall and 13-1 in the Northeast Conference.

Jarrid Frye scored the first basket of the game to give Sacred Heart a 2-0 lead, but freshman Joe Seymore answered with a three for the Blue Devils and they would never trail again. In fact, before seven minutes had been played, Central led 23-6. It was a lead it would extend to 41-19 at the intermission.

Central would build the lead to its lead to 27 on a dunk by Jemino Sobers with 14:29 left in the game. After Nwadike made a layup with 12:00 left to make it 58-31 for Central, the Pioneers went on a 21-4 run. A three by junior Luke Granato with 5:24 left cut the Central lead to 62-51. Senior guard Tavio Hobson was fouled with 4:33 left and made one of two to cut it to ten points.

After a Sobers turnover, Sacred Heart had a chance to cut it to single digits, but Drew Shubik missed a three. Hobson knocked Sobers down on a breakaway layup attempt and was called for the intentional foul. Sobers made one of two, and Blackwood was fouled on the possession after the intentional foul. He made both to extend the lead to 65-52.

The Pioneers, 12-13 and 8-6, ran out of gas after cutting into the lead so deeply and wouldn't challenge the final four minutes of the game.

Frye finished the game with 14 points to lead the Pioneers, while Granato had 11.
