The Pioneer women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to
Long Island Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn, NY. Meghan Reichelt
(Selden, NY) made six saves in goal for Sacred Heart while her
Blackbird counterpart Jennifer Bannon made five stops to earn the
shutout. Katie Egan found the back of the net for the only goal of
the game with seven minutes remaining in regulation.
Sacred Heart (7-8-1, 3-4-1 NEC) outshot Long Island 5-4 in the
first half and 12-9 overall. Neither team would be able to
find the opening goal in the first period as the two sides went
into the half tied at zero.
Long Island (8-7-1, 4-4-1 NEC) scored what would prove to be the
game winner with 7:00 to play in the second half. Egan beat
the Pioneer defense from six yards out with a one-touch shot on a
crossing pass from Kayleigh Morgan. Ashley Testani
(Monroe, CT) led the SHU attack with five total shots and two
shots on net.
The women's soccer team will return to action October 30 at home
as they take on the Monmouth Hawks. Game time is set for 6:00
pm.
