Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University women's soccer
team played to a scoreless tie with Bryant on Campus Field, Sunday
afternoon. The tie moved the Pioneers record to 5-3-3 overall
and 1-0-1 in the Northeast Conference. The Bulldogs record
now stands at 3-7-2 and 1-0-1.
Senior goalkeeper Meghan
Reichelt (Selden, N.Y.) made six stops in the 110 minute game
to earn the shutout for SHU. In the cage for Bryant,
sophomore netminder Kelsi Jacob also made six saves for the shutout
effort.
In the early moments of the second half Sacred Heart nearly
struck first on consecutives opportunities. Freshman defender
Alyssa
Brandofino (East Northport, N.Y.) lifted a cross into the box
that was headed on wide by sophomore midfielder Jen Mulvey
(Manalapan. N.J.). Mulvey's attempt went directly to junior forward
Amanda
Stiles (Miller Place, N.Y.) who ripped a shot that was
saved.
Late in the second half, Bryant sophomore Alex Bengston struck a
corner kick that bounced around inside the penalty box until
Bulldog senior defender Steph Del Mistro got a foot on it a put it
on net, but Reichelt was able to react and make the save.
With less than two minutes to play in the second overtime
period, Pioneer junior forward Samantha
Kee (Haskell, N.J.) had a shot deflected and bounded toward the
net. However, Jacob scrambled and made it to the left post in
time to keep the game knotted at zero.
Sacred Heart held a slight edge in shots with 13, while Bryant
had 12.
The Pioneers remain at home for their next two games when the
host Long Island on October 8 and Wagner October 10.
