Box Score Meghan Reichelt (Selden, NY) made six saves in net for the
Pioneers as SHU and Brown played to a 0-0 draw Sunday afternoon in
Providence, RI. Samantha Kee (Haskell, NJ) led the Sacred
Heart attack with seven shots but the Bears used two goaltenders to
preserve a shutout of their own.
Brown (3-2-1) outshot the Pioneers in the first half 6-5 and
21-18 throughout the game. In the closing minutes of the half
Diana Ohrt flicked a header after a Bears corner kick just
wide. Both teams struggled hitting the target in the opening
45 minutes as Brown outshot SHU on goal 2-0 in the half.
Sacred Heart (4-3-2) held the shooting edge 10-8 in the second
half of regulation. The Pioneers put two shots on goal in
quick succession early in the half but both were turned away by the
Bears goalie. Gina Walker put a headed shot on goal for Brown
with 3:21 to play in the second stanza but Reichelt made the save
to send the game to overtime.
The Bears came within inches of claiming an overtime victory as
Kiersten Berg fired a shot that rang off the post midway through
the first extra session. Reichelt made three saves in overtime for
the Pioneers to preserve the road draw. SHU was flagged for
six offsides in the game to the Bears two.
The women's soccer team returns to action Tuesday,
September 28 to open the Northeast Conference schedule on the road
against Fairleigh Dickinson.
