Sacred Heart Drops Decisions to Coastal Carolina and Temple

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Conway, SC – The SHU softball team completed day two of the Chanticleer Challenge but suffered losses to both host Coastal Carolina and Temple.  Annie Dreher (Saugus, CA) launched the first Pioneer homer of 2012 with a two-run shot against the Owls.  Nicole Sidor (West Vancouver, BC) allowed two runs in a complete game as SHU fell in a pitcher's duel.

Nicole Sidor (West Vancouver, BC) started the day by retiring the first nine hitters she faced.  Coastal Carolina (9-4) scratched out the only two runs of the game in the fourth inning on a rally started by a walk, a sacrifice, and an infield single.  Down to their last out the Pioneers put the tying runs on base with singles from Justine Sibthorp (Santa Clarita, CA) and Carley Rudloff (Queen Creek, AZ).  However, the Chanticleers would close the door to complete the shutout and down SHU, 2-0

Sacred Heart (0-4) fell behind 2-0 against Temple but got the tying run to the plate in the second inning as Liz Tsipouras (Simi Valley, CA) worked out a leadoff walk.  Dreher immediately capitalized for the Pioneers with an opposite field homer.  The Owls offense would continue to roll and piled on ten unanswered runs against SHU pitching.

The SHU softball team returns to action tomorrow for the final day of the Chanticleer Challenge against IPFW.
