Conway, SC – Sophomore Annie Dreher (Saugus, CA) belted a homerun for the second straight game and finished with three RBI but the SHU softball team fell to IPFW, 10-5, Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Chanticleer Challenge.  Freshman Justine Sibthorp (Santa Clarita, CA) hit third in the order and went 1-for-1 at the dish, drawing three walks.  The Pioneers made three errors in the game and were charged with five unearned runs.

Sacred Heart (0-5) started the bottom of the first with a single from Nicole Sidor (West Vancouver, BC).  SHU would benefit from a Mastodon error with two outs to tally the first score of the ball game.  Sidor was also the Pioneers starting pitcher and got through the first three innings unscathed to maintain the 1-0 advantage.

IPFW (6-2) hung up six runs in the fourth innings, four of the unearned variety, including a homer from Courtney Cronin.  Liz Tsipouras,(Simi Valley, CA) who led the Northeast Conference in RBI in 2012, made it a 6-2 affair with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth.  Dreher then launched her second homer in as many days to cut the SHU deficit to 6-4.  However, the Mastodons were able to hit the Pioneer bullpen and extended the cushion to 10-4 in the seventh. 

Sacred Heart added a marker in the bottom half of the frame as Dreher notched a run-scoring double into left center to chase home Kirsten Savage (Harrington Park, NJ). 

The Pioneers return to action March 4 as they travel to Florida for the annual Rebel Spring Games to play 12 games over seven days.
