The Pioneers took their first lead of the game with 11:06 left in the first on a Kelley three-pointer, making the score 17-16. Kelley made another three with 8:35 left in the half to give Sacred Heart a 20-19 lead. That second three was the Pioneers' last basket of the half. The Bulldogs kept the lead at double-digits early in the second half, taking a 53-37 lead with 12:38 to play on a Nick Victor three-pointer. Two free throws by Vincent sparked a 9-2 Sacred Heart run over the next 2:53, with Kelley capping it off with a dunk to make the score 55-46 with 9:45 to play. The Pioneers cut the Yale advantage to six, 59-53, with 7:36 to go on a fast break layup by Kelley. That would be as close as Sacred Heart would get. Yale went on a 14-1 run over the next 4:28 to take a 73-54 lead. The Pioneers cut the Bulldogs lead to 10 in the final 1:30 but it wouldn't be enough.

Yale shot 48.1% from the field to Sacred Heart's 45.8%. The Bulldogs also made eight threes in the game and outrebounded the Pioneers 40-28. Duren and Victor each had 16 points to lead Yale in scoring.
