Box Score NEW YORK – Senior goalkeeper Talia Schwartz (Roslyn, N.Y.) made five saves Friday night for her second straight clean sheet, as the Sacred Heart women's soccer team and the Columbia Lions battled to a 0-0 draw at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium.
Sacred Heart (2-1-1) had both of its shots on goal in regulation in the first half. Jacquelyn Roth (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) recorded the game's first shot on goal in the third minute, forcing a save by Columbia goalkeeper Gabby Dubick. Roth also had another shot on goal in the 25th minute. Marissa Christy (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Elisa Robiglio (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) both had shots miss the mark in the first half as well. The Lions had four shots in the first half as well, with Schwartz making a pair of saves to keep the game goalless heading into the second half.
Columbia (0-0-1) had the first shot on goal in the second half, with Phoenetia Browne's attempt in the 51st minute saved by Schwartz. Schwartz had to make another save in the 63rd minute, once again on a shot by Browne. The Lions held the Pioneers without a shot in the second half, but could not find the goal themselves and the game proceeded to overtime. Both teams had one shot on goal in extra time, but both goalkeepers were stalwart and the game ended in a 0-0 tie.
The Lions outshot the Pioneers 15-5 for the game. Sacred Heart held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. Dubick made three saves for Columbia, as Schwartz had five for the Pioneers.
Sacred Heart returns to Campus Field on Sunday, September 7 for a 1 p.m. match against Rhode Island.
