Box Score LORETTO, Pa. – The Sacred Heart women's soccer team outshot the Saint Francis U Red Flash 27-13 on Sunday at Stokes Soccerplex, but were unable to score in a 3-0 defeat.
Saint Francis U (4-9-1, 4-0-0 NEC) got on the scoreboard in the 17th minute when Shannon McGinnis converted a penalty kick. Ten minutes later, the Red Flash took a 2-0 lead. Allison LaDuke played a cross to Casey Gallaher in the box who put it home. Sacred Heart (3-10-0, 0-4-0 NEC) had 14 shots in the first half, six of which were on goal. Saint Francis U added a goal 1:10 into the second half when Gabi Morales scored on a free kick from 20 yards out.
Red Flash goalkeeper Romina Kunze made 10 saves for the clean sheet. Talia Schwartz made five saves on the afternoon for Sacred Heart.
Sacred Heart returns to Campus Field on Friday, Oct. 16 for a 7 p.m. game against Central Connecticut.
FIRST HALF
- Alex Mesropyan put two shots wide of goal in the first four minutes.
- Talia Schwartz made a save on a Gabi Morales shot in the eighth minute.
- Marissa Christy put a shot over the goal in the 12th minute.
- Mesropyan had SHU's first shot on goal in the 20th minute that was saved by Red Flash goalkeeper Romina Kunze.
- Lindsay Corallo had shots saved in the 25th and 30th minutes.
- Kim McNally had a header saved in the 35th minute.
- SHU outshot Saint Francis U 14-8 in the first half and had 10 corners.
SECOND HALF
- Corallo had a shot saved by Kunze in the 49th minute.
- The Pioneers took four shots in a span of three minutes, capped by a wide shot from Melanie DaSilva in the 55th minute.
- Sacred Heart had two shots on goal in the final 10 minutes, both of which were saved by Kunze.
