Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart women's soccer team rallied to tie the game in the second half but eventually fell short against the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers 2-1 on Senior Day Sunday afternoon at Campus Field.
Mount St. Mary's (3-12-2, 2-2-2 NEC) scored first in the 21st minute as Gianna Pomykacz knocked a shot past Talia Schwartz into the back right corner of the net. Sacred Heart (4-11-0, 1-5-0 NEC) controlled much of the first half action, outshooting the Mountaineers 7-2 but was unable to get on the scoreboard.
In the second half, the Pioneers were finally able to capitalize as Lindsay Corallo rolled one past goalkeeper Rachel Bourne in the 50th minute. The goal was assisted by senior Dana Cosmedy. The game remained tied until the 84th minute when a Mount St. Mary's free kick was converted by Kristen Morawski. It was Morawski's first goal of the season. Sacred Heart pressured late but the Mountaineers were able to hang on for the win.
The Pioneers next host LIU Brooklyn on Friday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.
FIRST HALF
- Corallo's strong attack in the box was knocked away by Mount St. Mary's Nicole Vallely in the eighth minute.
- Kim McNally's header went wide right in the in the 25th minute.
- In the 31st minute, Dana Cosmedy's hard shot went just left of goal.
- Emily Montgomery's free kick sailed over the left crossbar in the 33rd minute.
- In the 42nd minute, Marissa Christy booted the ball just over the crossbar.
SECOND HALF
- Emma Blair of Mount St. Mary's put a shot over the crossbar in the 48th minute.
- In the 54th minute, Christy had a nice steal and fired a shot just over the crossbar.
- Bourne made a nice save off a rebound shot from Cosmedy in the 62nd minute.
- Senior Elisa Robiglio prevented a possible go-ahead goal with a sliding tackle on a Mountaineers' two-on-one breakaway in the 66th minute.
- Alexis Parlato had a late scoring chance saved by Bourne.
- Sacred Heart ended the game outshooting Mount St. Mary's 19-8.
