Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart women's soccer team fought hard but eventually fell to the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds 1-0 Friday night at Campus Field in its home finale.
In a scoreless first half, Sacred Heart (4-12-0, 1-6-0 NEC) outshot LIU Brooklyn (5-12-0, 1-5-0 NEC) 9-4 while dominating possession. Even though Sacred Heart controlled the ball through a majority of the second half, LIU Brooklyn scored the eventual game-winner in the 78th minute. Summer Sofer tallied her first goal of the season on a shot from the top of the box that snuck past Pioneers goalkeeper Talia Schwartz and into the right corner of the goal. Allegra Ondrejka was credited with the assist. Sacred Heart came close to equalizing in the 85th minute, but what could have been the tying goal was called off because of a foul in the 18-yard box.
Sacred Heart finishes the 2015 season at Wagner on Friday, October 30 at 7 p.m.
FIRST HALF
- Alex Mesropyan's shot two minutes in was saved by Jessica Montrose.
- Lindsay Corallo's shot in the 11th minute was grabbed by Montrose.
- LIU Brooklyn's Madison Gomez had a shot in the 32nd minute miss just wide on LIU Brooklyn's best scoring opportunity of the half.
- Melanie DaSilva's third chance of the half was stopped by Montrose in the 43rd minute.
SECOND HALF
- Talia Schwartz's first save of the game came in the 48th minute on a Gomez shot.
- Marissa Christy had a shot sail wide left in the 56th minute.
- Gomez had a header float high over the crossbar in the 65th minute.
- Schwartz made a diving stop in the 65th on an Ashley Drozd shot.
- Alexis Parlato's strike in the 71st minute was sent away by Montrose.
- Corallo had a chance to level the game in the 88th minute, but Montrose scooped up her shot.
