Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

NEW HAVEN, CONN. (April 15, 2015)—Hannah Ford went 3-for-6 against Yale on Wednesday scoring one run while knocking in four runs. The rookie sparked the Pioneers' five-run eighth inning with a three-run home run leading to the Sacred Heart softball team's 8-5 win. The Bulldogs managed to edge out SHU 4-3 in the second game of the doubleheader moving the Pioneers' overall record to 10-21.

After Justine Sibthorp's solo shot put the Pioneers on the board in the top of the fourth, Victoria D'Addario followed her with a double to right field and was driven home by Ford's single to center giving SHU a 2-0 lead.

Adrianna Mallory got the start for SHU pitching a complete game. The sophomore gave up a run to the Bulldogs in the bottom of the inning after Sarah Onorato crossed home after leading off the inning with a double.  Yale picked up two more runs in the bottom of the fifth taking a 3-2 lead, but the Pioneers weren't done yet.

Andrea Sidor led off the top of the sixth inning with a single to centerfield sparking a three-hit rally that evened the score at three. The Bulldogs went down in order in the bottom of the sixth and neither team was able to score in the seventh sending the game into extra innings.

With the first two batters out, D'Addario worked a walk putting runners on first and second as Jenn Robillard was put at second with the international tiebreaker rule in effect. With the fate of the game in her hands, rookie Ford came up and launch a homer over the fence in right-centerfield giving SHU a 6-3 advantage. Pinch hitter Courtney Machamer kept the momentum going sending a double to the leftfield fence and advanced to third and scored on two wild pitches. Two straight walks to Stephanie Appelberg and Kate Nadler had the Pioneers threatening again.  Lauren Delgadillo hit her second single of the game driving Appelberg home for Sacred Heart's final run.

Mallory shut the Bulldogs down in the bottom of the eighth earning her first win of the season.

Yale struck first in the second game, getting two runs on three hits off SHU starter Kacie Wentworth in the bottom of the third inning. SHU lessened the gap as Sibthorp scored an unearned run in the top of the fourth.

Wentworth held Yale to just one hit over the next two innings, but the Bulldog bats came alive in the bottom of the sixth. Brittany Labbadia led off the inning with a double down the leftfield line. Wentworth held her there getting Sydney Glover to swing at the third strike and Allison Skinner to fly out to Sibthorp. But she couldn't shut down Onorato who got a hold of one sending it out of the park for the winning runs.

The Pioneers return home Thursday for a doubleheader against Siena beginning at 3:00 p.m.
