Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team fell to the Saint Joseph's Hawks 16-6 Saturday in the heavy snow at Sweeney Field.
Max Tuttle led the Pioneers with two assists and three goals. Midfielders Julian Garritano and Reed Avveduti each had two goals. Greg Price made 11 saves in goal and had four groundballs. TJ Fitzell led SHU with three caused turnovers.
Saint Joseph's (8-2, 3-0 NEC) got off to a fast start as Mike Rastivo scored twice in the first 50 seconds to take a 2-0 lead. The Hawks then took a 3-0 lead at the 13:22 mark on a Pat Swanick tally. Max Tuttle got Sacred Heart (2-9, 0-3 NEC) on the board with 10:58 to go in the first with his 16th goal of the season, making the score 3-1.
After the Hawks took a 4-1 lead early in the second quarter, SHU cut the deficit to one as back-to-back goals by Matt Posch and Reed Avveduti made the score 4-3 with 9:26 to play in the half. The two teams traded goals to end the half as Kyle Cain scored with 1:00 left to give Saint Joseph's a 6-4 halftime lead.
Julian Garritano got the Pioneers within a goal 1:31 into the third quarter as his second goal of the game made the score 6-5. The Hawks responded with goals from Swanick, Marcus Milone, and Hayes McGinley to go up 9-5 with 6:19 remaining in the quarter. Swanick tacked on one more goal at the third quarter horn to make the score 10-5 heading into the fourth. Saint Joseph's outscored the Pioneers 6-1 in the fourth quarter to win the game 16-6.
SHU outshout Saint Joseph's 35-34, while the Hawks held a 38-26 advantage in caused turnovers. Swanick led all scorers with four goals while Rastivo had four points on three goals and an assist.
The Pioneers return to Campus Field on Saturday, April 16 when they host Wagner at 7 p.m. for Senior Night.
