Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart women's soccer team fell in their 2016 home opener to Columbia 1-0 in double overtime at Campus Field on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Sambuco (Hauppauge, NY) had another strong performance in goal for the Pioneers with seven saves. The Lions (2-3-1) offensive attack outshot the Pioneers (2-4-2) 20 to six. Sacred Heart's best opportunities came in the tail end of the first overtime with freshman midfielder Olivia Crema's (Litchfield, N.H.) shot from 18 yards out barely going over the crossbar in the 99th minute. Sophomore forward Maranda Gibbons (Smithtown, NY) followed that up in the 99:33 mark with her shot getting saved by Columbia's Sophie Whitehouse.
Nearly halfway through the second overtime, Columbia's Emma Anderson made a long cross into the middle of the box to Holly Neshat who touched it to Madeline Linde, who then rolled it in for her second goal of the season and bring the final to 1-0.
The Pioneers will have a nice break before going back on the road on Wednesday September 21 at Brown.
First Half

- Gibbon's starts the second half with Sacred Heart's first shot of the game in the 47th minute but it was saved by Whitehouse.
- Shot by Amalya Johnson misses high for the Lions in the 78th minute.
- Crema has her shot saved by Whitehouse in the 85th minute.
First OT
- Emily Koes header misses high for Columbia in the 95th minute.
- Crema's shot from 18 yards out goes barely over the crossbar in the 99th minute.
- Gibbon's close shot is saved by Whitehouse at the 99:33 mark.
Second OT
- Lions finally find the net on Linde's goal, assisted on the cross from Anderson and touch by Neshat.
