Box Score MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa.— The Sacred Heart women's soccer team earned its first Northeast Conference victory with a 1-0 win over Robert Morris on Sunday. Junior Nicole Sambuco recorded her tenth career clean sheet with five saves in goal for SHU.
After battling back-and-forth with the Colonials (2-9, 0-2 NEC) early, the Pioneers (4-8, 1-1 NEC) got on the board courtesy of junior captain Alex Mesropyan's header to the left post off the corner kick feed from classmate Alyssa Hyland in the 34th minute. Mesropyan's goal tied a single season high of four and was the 10th goal of her career. Hyland's assist was her first of the season. The momentum in the second half continued in the Pioneers favor outshooting RMU, 7-4.
Sacred Heart outshot Robert Morris 14-7 on the game and held a 7-2 edge on corner kicks. Sydney Bruckner made seven saves in goal for the Colonials. Junior Lindsay Corallo led the Pioneers with four shots and two on goal.
The Pioneers return home to Park Ave. Field on Friday, October 6 as Mount St. Mary's comes to town for 3:00 p.m. matchup.
First Half
- Corallo fired the first shot on goal of the game at 7:32 in the opening half.
- Sambuco earned her first two saves of the game in the 8th & 9th minute as the Colonial attack threatened.
- Mesropyan's goal in the 34th minute gave her the team lead with nine points on the season.
- SHU fired seven shots in the opening 45 minutes.
Second Half
- Sambuco corralled the header attempt by Greer Monahan in the 53rd minute.
- Freshman Taylor Casale had two scoring chances get denied by Bruckner in the 80th & 81st minute.
- The SHU defense held RMU without a shot in the last 11 minutes of regulation.
