Box Score 2 FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University softball team had its eight-game home winning streak come to a close as Saint Francis U earned the doubleheader sweep on Senior Day. The Red Flash (32-17, 12-0 NEC) took game one 2-1 over the Pioneers (28-20, 8-4 NEC) before holding on to a 1-0 win in game two.
Prior to the game, SHU honored Stephanie Appelberg, Fallon Bevino, Lauren Delgadillo, Jessica Dubbioso, Hannah Ford and Dani Warnken as part of senior day.
Game One – SFU 2, SHU 1
The Scoring…
Top of the 2nd inning… Sierra McKee won the outcome of an eight-pitch at-bat against Kristen McCann lining the two-out single to right field to score Jordan Seneca for the 1-0 lead.
Bottom of the 2nd inning…The Pioneers were able to score without generating a hit as Lauren Delgadillo was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on an error. A wild pitch allowed to move to third and an errant throw brought her home for the 1-1 tie.
Top of the 5th inning… Cheyenne McKee picked up the one-out single to left field to drive in the winning run from second base.
The Numbers…
- The Pioneers were held to just one hit in game one, as Bevino opened the inning with a single to right.
- McCann recorded six strikeouts, suffering the loss with two runs against.
Game Two – SFU 1, SHU 0
The Scoring…
Top of the 6th inning… The Red Flash broke up the no-hit bid by Emily Orosco in the sixth on a leadoff home run by Jordan Seneca to left field.
The Numbers…
- SHU only got two hits off of Abby Trahan in game two, with Stephanie Mangiameli and Lauren Delgadillo recording hits in the fifth and sixth innings.
- Orosco surrendered just two hits while striking out nine batters. She suffered her first loss since March 2 at Winthrop.
