Pioneers fall 1-0 to New Hampshire while Melanie DaSilva led team in shots

FAIRFIELD, Conn- The Sacred Heart Women's Soccer team (1-8-0 overall, 0-0 NEC) fell to New Hampshire (4-4-1 overall, 0-0 America East) by a score of 1-0 this afternoon. The team returns to action on Friday September 21 when the begin Northeast Conference play against Bryant. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. 

New Hampshire would strike first with a goal by Liz Lane at 13:02 to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. SHU would attempt to respond as Alex Mesropyan and Maranda Gibbons would launch shots but were just wide to keep the score at 1-0 at 15:51. The Pioneers would be outshot by the Wildcats 13-5 in the first half as Melanie DaSilva would launch two of the five shots in the first half for SHU.

New Hampshire would begin the second half with two quick shots but senior goalie Nicole Sambuco would save one of the shots while the other went high. Sambuco would tally 11 saves on the day while only letting one goal slip by. Lindsay Savko would then fire a shot that would go wide left at 47:31. Melanie DaSilva would be the main aggressor for the Pioneers as she led the team in shots with four including one on goal. Both defenses would hold strong as neither team would be able to score a goal in second half to make the final score 1-0 in favor of New Hampshire.
