LANCASTER, Pa.- The Sacred Heart University Wrestling team narrowly defeated Franklin and Marshall today as the Pioneers prevailed with an 18-17 victory over the Diplomats as SHU was named the winner based on third criteria with a 65-64 point win. The Pioneers will return to action on Friday Jan. 24 when SHU travels to face AIC. Matches begin at 7:00 p.m.

Overall in the matches SHU defeated the Diplomats in five matches as the Pioneers claimed wins in the 174, 184, 197, 133 and 149 weight bouts. Sophomore Anthony Petrillo took a victoriy in the 133 bout while Nick Palumbo took a win in the 149 bout. Petrillo defeated Jack Bruce by decision 8-2 in the 133 pound bout while Palumbo defeated Cristiaan Dailey in the 149 bout by decision 6-2. Junior transfer Joe Accousti took the first win for the Pioneers over Crew Fullerton by decision 4-1 followed by a victory by sophomore Kyle Davis over James Stillerman by major decision 17-6. Fellow sophomore Robert Hetherman also took a major decision victory with a win in the 197 bout defeating Ethan Seeley 12-2. SHU dropped the other bouts which lead to the third criteria tally by the referee which is the total match points scored only from decisions, major decisions and technical falls. SHU won 65-64 in that criteria to give SHU its third dual win of the season.
