SHELTON, Conn. — Goalkeeper Frankie Sanchez earned her first shutout in the Sacred Heart University women ice hockey team's 4-0 triumph over Post University on Saturday. The Pioneers handed the Eagles their first losses in back-to-back wins this weekend.
The home team improved to 2-2 in NEWHA and 4-5 overall, while Post dropped to 2-2 and 2-4.
Alexa Ocel blasted the first goal with assists off the stick of co-captains Anna Klein and Kelly Solak one minute into the first period. The forward closed out the final period for her second goal of the night.
Anna Klein and Nicole Bessinger tallied two more before time expired in the second in back-to-back goals with six minutes remaining.Â
Elizabeth Jacobson came to the aid of Klein and Ocel for a career-high two assists.
Sanchez faced 37 shots and grabbed 19 saves in her time in the net.Â
The Pioneers dominated both offensive and defense sides by outshooting the visitors, 73-37, and blocking 10 shots.
The Red & White stay at home for a two-game stint against Saint Anselm College on Nov. 5-6, with puck drops at 4 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
