Keaney’s OT Goal Seals 4-3 Win

First-year Aine Keaney’s first career goal hands Warriors' 11th-straight loss

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — For the first time as a Pioneer, Aine Keaney delivered the game-winning goal for the Sacred Heart University field hockey team's, 4-3, victory versus Merrimack on Friday.

The Pioneers are undefeated in the Northeast Conference with a 2-0 record and sit 2-8 overall.

Two and a half minutes into the game, the Warriors took an early lead until Julia Flood and Christiana Constantino, for her first, tallied two in the final five minutes of the second quarter.

Merrimack responded with another quick goal after the halftime break to knot the game 2-2 before gaining the lead again with five minutes remaining in regulation. One minute after Merrimack's goal, Mia Katterman evened the score, 3-3, to send the game into overtime.

Kayla Kruk found Keaney's stick six minutes into the extra frame to seal the win.

The Red & White continues its conference play when the team travels to crosstown-rival Fairfield on Sunday for a 1 p.m. game.
