Wagner Game Notes
After picking up its first road win, the Sacred Heart University football team returns to Campus Field for the final home game of the regular season versus Wagner on Saturday, Nov. 13. The Pioneers (6-3, 4-1 NEC) have won the last two meetings, but the two teams haven't met since 2019 as the Seahawks played a limited schedule in spring 2021. Wagner's (0-9, 0-5 NEC) comeback bid at home vs. Merrimack fell short late in the fourth quarter for a 35-28 loss.
OPENING KICKOFF
- Sacred Heart and Wagner meet for the first time since the 2019 campaign as the Seahawks returned for a full season of play this fall. The Pioneers will honor the program's 24 seniors in an 11:30 a.m. pre-game ceremony.
- Coach Mark Nofri's Pioneers improved to 6-5 following a bye week as they held on for a 14-13 victory at Saint Francis (Pa.) on Nov. 6.Â
- Saturday's win gave SHU a four-game winning streak, its fourth under Nofri, and first such streak since 2016.
- Earlier this week, Malik Grant was named to watch lists for the Payton Award and College Football Performance FCS National Performer of the Year.
- For the fourth-straight week, Grant ranks among the top three in rushing yards per game, including two weeks at #1. His 123.3 yards per game average and 1,110-yards total are currently third in FCS.
- Marquez McCray registered his 2021 single-game and career best with 224 passing yards versus the Red Flash. McCray's 87.5 completion percentage (14-16) in that game now tops the Pios' single-game chart in that category.
- Sacred Heart continues to have the best passing defense in the country, limiting opponents to just 114.0 yards per game.
