FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team claimed a 71-46 victory against Brown in its home opener on Sunday.
Sonia Smith matched her season high with 22 points.

Sacred Heart continued to grow its lead throughout the second quarter.
Olivia Tucker's three-point at the 3:16 mark pushed it to 25-12 and SHU went to the locker room up 27-16.
Sacred Heart came out hot to start the second half, scoring 14 unanswered points to extend the lead 39-16. Eight of those points came from
Asia McCray who was a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe.
Smith matched her season-high with 22 points to go along with seven rebounds and three steals. McCray and Tucker notched 13 points apiece.
Sacred Heart made its mark from the charity stripe, shooting 80% (20-25). The Pioneers also got 16 points off 21 Brown turnovers.
Sacred Heart starts the season 2-0 for the first time since 2018.
