Sonia Smith scored a layup coming out of the locker room before Yale notched six unanswered points to take the lead, 33-32.
Asia McCray laid in a bucket followed by Wil'lisha Jackson, who drained two free throws to help the Pioneers get back in the lead by three points, 36-33.
Nikki Johnson tied the game on a layup before the Bulldogs drained a three-pointer to take a 43-40 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Sacred Heart kept inching closer with 10 minutes left in the game, scoring eight points in the paint. However, turnovers were an issue as the Pioneers committed three turnovers that led to six points for the Bulldogs. Yale continued to extend its lead at the free throw line, making 8-of-12 to bring the game to its final score.
Carly Stroemel capped off the night with a new career-high 18 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Nikki Johnson finished with 16 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Sacred Heart outshot Yale with 22-of-56 in field goals compared to 20-of-64. The Bulldogs had the advantage from the charity stripe, shooting 18-of-28 versus the Pioneers' 7-of-11. Yale dominated the glass as it outrebounded Sacred Heart, 48-36, with 17 coming from the offensive end. The Bulldogs turned their 17 rebounds into 17 points.
